A major political controversy has erupted in Punjab, bringing severe legal trouble for Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring. The National Commission for Scheduled Castes has taken an extremely strict stance regarding the alleged use of casteist and derogatory remarks against late former Union Home Minister Buta Singh. The commission has issued firm directives to the police and administrative machinery to immediately arrest Raja Warring.
The Controversial Speech at a Campaign Rally
This entire legal dispute originates from Tarn Taran district in Punjab. While addressing an election rally, Raja Warring allegedly made offensive and casteist remarks against former Home Minister Buta Singh during his speech. Following the use of such language against a prominent figure associated with the Scheduled Caste community, widespread outrage emerged across political circles. The matter reached the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, which took cognizance of the issue, conducted hearings, and classified the matter as a serious offense.
Ultimatum for Arrest and Chargesheet Within Five Days
Following the hearing held in New Delhi, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes issued clear directives that the accused individuals involved in this case must be arrested immediately in accordance with the law. The commission issued a strict warning to officials, stating that a complete action taken report regarding the arrest must be submitted to the commission within five days. Along with this, a recommendation has also been made to expedite the investigation without any laxity and file a chargesheet in a competent court.
Police Protection Ordered in Delhi and Punjab
The commission has also expressed grave concern over continuous threats being received by the petitioner pursuing the case. The petitioner had complained that ever since the case was filed, they and their family members have been facing persistent threats. Acknowledging the extreme sensitivity of the situation, the commission directed the police forces in both Punjab and Delhi to immediately provide adequate police security to the petitioner and their dependents. All eyes are now on Punjab Police to see what actions will be taken following this five-day ultimatum.
