The political climate in Telangana has entered a phase of severe turbulence, spreading intense friction from the state capital all the way to the rural estate of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao. A confrontation that initially erupted near the assembly gates has quickly snowballed into formal police cases against prominent opposition figures and subsequent arrests. This cascading series of events has left political corridors charged, with rival parties locking horns and hurling serious accusations at one another over institutional decorum and law enforcement actions.
The sequence of events began on Monday outside the entry gates of the legislature, where leaders of the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi staged a vocal demonstration. Lawmakers including KTR and T. Harish Rao participated in the protest to mark a specific duration since the Congress government took office. Wearing specially made black t-shirts bearing anti-establishment slogans, the opposition figures sought to draw public attention. Police officials maintained that security restrictions had been duly implemented in strict accordance with directives issued by the assembly speaker. Despite these boundaries, the protesting legislators attempted to push past the cordons, resulting in heated verbal spats and physical shoving matches at the main entrance, which ultimately led to the initial detention of key BRS figures like KTR and Harish Rao.
By Tuesday, the situation escalated legally when law enforcement registered formal cases against KTR, Harish Rao, and several other BRS leaders. According to the filed First Information Reports, the accused are facing multiple charges, including obstructing public servants from discharging their duties and allegedly assaulting police personnel. The documentation claims that the leaders forced their way past security barriers, harassed female constables, intimidated staff, grabbed police collars, and shoved Quick Reaction Team personnel.
Conversely, the BRS camp vehemently rejected the police allegations, turning the narrative around to claim that law enforcement personnel were the actual aggressors. During Tuesday's assembly session, senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao forcefully raised this issue, alleging that a female legislator's saree was pulled and that former minister P. Sabitha Indra Reddy was also subjected to mistreatment by police personnel. Harish Rao stated that the party had formally complained to the police commissioner regarding the incident, but instead of addressing the grievances, authorities filed cases against the opposition's women legislators. He characterized the police action as an inverse distortion of justice.
Adding fuel to this already blazing fire was the Tuesday morning arrest of two BRS MLCs, Tata Madhusudan alias Madhu and N. Naveen Kumar Reddy. Both legislative council members are accused of making offensive and derogatory remarks directed at Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar. The Saifabad police registered the case following a formal complaint lodged by the speaker's Officer on Special Delivery, Polepally Venkatesham. The complaint asserted that disparaging comments were made openly in front of journalists, media personnel, assembly staff, and security officers, specifically noting that the remarks were uttered with full awareness of the speaker's social background.
The controversy spilled directly onto the assembly floor as soon as proceedings commenced on Tuesday. Harish Rao reiterated allegations of police misconduct against BRS women legislators and demanded strict accountability. In response, Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu stated that Chief Minister A. Revanth Rao and the assembly speaker had called for a comprehensive report on the entire episode, assuring that appropriate steps would follow based on those findings.
Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar addressed the house by emphasizing that the legislature holds its female members in high regard. He added that the derogatory comments specifically invoked his mother, giving him every right to feel deeply hurt. Congress legislators demanded an unconditional apology from the BRS for the remarks directed at the chair. Following intense verbal sparring between the two sides, the assembly proceedings had to be adjourned briefly.
The political friction did not remain confined to the legislative complex. By Tuesday afternoon, severe tension surfaced outside the farmhouse of K. Chandrashekar Rao located in Erravalli, Siddipet district. Outraged by the alleged remarks made by the BRS MLCs against the speaker, Congress workers attempted to march toward the former chief minister's residence. Demonstrators arriving from surrounding villages tried to breach police barricades put in place for security.
As law enforcement personnel attempted to block their advance, pushing and shoving ensued, leading to clashes where a few police officers reportedly sustained injuries. A heavy contingent of police personnel had been deployed around the sprawling farmhouse premises to preempt any untoward incidents.
Upon receiving word of the Congress protest, KTR, Harish Rao, and several other BRS legislators immediately departed from the assembly toward Erravalli. Their convoy was intercepted by police authorities near Bolaram, triggering an intense argument between the opposition leaders and police officials. Although police officers assured them that adequate security arrangements were in place for K. Chandrashekar Rao, the BRS leaders made it clear that they harbored no trust in the police administration.
