Flight AI1886 departed from Raja Bhoj Airport in Bhopal at 8:47 AM, slightly behind its scheduled departure time of 8:25 AM. The aircraft was slated to reach its destination in Delhi at 9:55 AM. However, mid-flight, the pilots detected a snag in the engine, prompting them to contact air traffic control and divert the aircraft to Jaipur, where it landed safely under emergency protocols.
String of Recent Mid-Air Engine Failures
This incident follows a series of recent technical scares in Indian skies. On September 11, an Alliance Air flight from Prayagraj to Delhi made an emergency landing at Delhi airport after its engine failed mid-air with 40 passengers on board. The pilots had detected the technical glitch approximately 30 minutes before landing.
Earlier, on September 1, an IndiGo flight heading to Delhi from Goa suffered a mid-air engine failure and had to make an emergency landing at Mopa Airport. Additionally, in May, an Air India Bhopal-to-Mumbai flight was cancelled before takeoff due to an engine defect, which caused major disruptions for 175 passengers booked on that flight.
