A joyous celebration turned into a tragedy in Rajasthan's Nagaur district when a reckless stunt performed by a DJ vehicle driver during a retirement procession led to a fatal accident. The incident occurred when the driver lost control while swerving the heavy vehicle on the road, causing two young cameramen sitting on the roof to fall to the ground. Bunty Prajapat, a 25-year-old cameraman, succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a hospital in Jodhpur on Tuesday, while his colleague Prahlad Prajapat continues to undergo medical care with stable vital signs. The entire sequence of events was captured on a mobile phone by occupants of a trailing vehicle.
Retirement Celebration Procession in Nagaur
The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Khinvsar police station at Aakla village. Shivraj Prajapat, a teacher at the Government Senior Secondary School in Aakla, retired from government service on Monday. To honor his long career, family members, colleagues, and local villagers organized a ceremonial procession to escort him from the school to his residence in Khinvsar. As part of the festivities, a sound system mounted on a DJ truck led the procession, playing music for the gathering. To document the celebration, Khinvsar residents Bunty Prajapat, aged 25, and Prahlad Prajapat, aged 22, climbed onto the roof of the moving DJ vehicle to capture photographs and video footage of the crowd.
Reckless Driving Skids Truck Off Road
As the procession progressed along the route, the DJ driver began maneuvering the vehicle dangerously, swerving side to side across the road. The abrupt movements caused the driver to lose control over the heavy vehicle, sending it skidding off the paved road into an adjoining field. The violent jerk threw both cameramen off balance before they could secure themselves. Bunty and Prahlad were thrown off the roof and crashed onto the hard ground below. Eyewitnesses noted that the truck came close to overturning, but managed to halt in the field without rolling over the fallen victims, preventing an even higher death toll.
Fatal Outcome and Ongoing Police Investigation
The unexpected accident sparked panic among the attendees, who immediately halted the procession to assist the injured youths. Both cameramen were rushed to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment. Recognizing the severity of their trauma, doctors quickly transferred both victims to a higher medical center in Jodhpur. On Tuesday, Bunty Prajapat passed away while undergoing treatment in Jodhpur. Meanwhile, 22-year-old Prahlad Prajapat remains under medical supervision in Jodhpur, where doctors have listed his condition as stable.
Video evidence of the accident emerged shortly after the event, recorded by passengers traveling in a Scorpio vehicle directly behind the DJ truck. The footage clearly shows the vehicle swerving across the road, losing traction, and the two cameramen falling off as the truck careened off the roadway. Commenting on the tragic incident, Nagaur Superintendent of Police Asaram Choudhary stated that the driver performed life-threatening stunts during the retirement event, directly leading to the fatal fall. The senior officer assured that once a formal police report is filed by the family or witnesses, law enforcement will initiate strict legal action against the DJ operator for reckless driving and endangering human lives.
