Preparations for expanding New Sanganer Road have gained significant momentum as the Jaipur Development Authority steps up ground operations between Gurjar Ki Thadi and Sodala. In compliance with strict judicial directions, the civic body is gearing up for a large-scale drive to remove encroaching structures and expand the key transit artery to a width of 100 feet. The prospect of imminent demolition has triggered widespread anxiety among local business owners and residents, culminating in a complete commercial shutdown on Tuesday as merchants closed their shops in protest.
Court Directives and the October 6 Compliance Deadline
The latest operational push follows an order issued on August 6 by a division bench comprising Justice Inderjeet Singh and Justice Sandeep Mehta. The bench instructed the Jaipur Development Authority to undertake road widening measures along the stretch connecting Gurjar Ki Thadi to Sodala without delay. The court has set a strict timeline, directing the civic body to submit a formal compliance report by October 6. Facing this judicial deadline, administrative and engineering teams immediately initiated field demarcation along the corridor to identify obstructive structures.
A 2.3-Kilometre Corridor and 250 Structures in the Clearance Zone
Technical personnel have started on-site measurements to accurately establish the road boundary across the entire 2.3-kilometre stretch. Achieving the mandated 100-foot roadway will impact an estimated 250 residential and commercial properties situated along the alignment. This initiative follows previous infrastructure clearance operations undertaken by the authority across other parts of the city, including extensive demolition drives on Gopalpura, Mansarovar RIICO Kanta, Khatipura, and the Jagatpura flyover corridor.
Traders Voice Grievances, Cite Ownership Deeds and Seek Relief
In response to the demarcation drive, affected shopkeepers and property owners convened an emergency meeting to chart their response. Demonstrators pointed out that their businesses have been established along this road for roughly 60 to 70 years. They maintained that their ownership is supported by valid lease deeds issued by housing cooperative societies alongside lawful title records. Urging authorities not to act hastily, the community demanded a comprehensive scrutiny of all property documents prior to any physical demolition, insisting on a transparent rehabilitation framework and fair compensation for all legitimate deed holders.
