As markets buzz with festive shoppers eagerly stocking up for Diwali, local authorities have stepped up surveillance to protect public health. The food safety department in Rajasthan's Bhilwara district recently launched a major crackdown, seizing and destroying large quantities of expired and substandard food items before they could reach consumers during the peak shopping season.
Thousands of Expired Snack Packets Found in Bhilwara City
Acting on directives issued by District Collector Jasmeet Singh Sandhu and under the guidance of CMHO Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, food safety teams raided multiple establishments. In Bhilwara city, an inspection at Arihant Enterprises located on 100 Feet Road uncovered roughly one thousand packets of expired Kurkure and Balaji namkeen. Authorities immediately destroyed the entire stock on site. During the same operation, the team collected samples of Taj Mahal tea leaves and Gopal Ratlami namkeen from Harihar Agency. The inspection team included Food Safety Officers Pawan Kumar Regar, Ashok Kumar Yadav, Vijay Mehta, and Sanjay Verma.
Edible Oil and Chili Powder Destroyed in Gulabpura
In a parallel operation, a second food safety team inspected Nayta Kirana Store in Gulabpura. The search revealed 400 liters of expired cooking oil and 30 kilograms of chili powder, both of which were promptly disposed of and destroyed. Additionally, officials collected official samples of turmeric and Krishna Dairy ghee for further evaluation to ensure they met safety standards.
Laboratory Testing Underway in Ajmer
All food samples collected from both locations have been securely packed and dispatched to the designated laboratory in Ajmer for detailed chemical and quality analysis. Further legal actions and penalties will be initiated against the establishment owners based on the official test results once the reports are finalized.
Important Safety Tips for Festive Grocery Shoppers
Health authorities strongly advise citizens to remain vigilant while purchasing food products for celebrations. Consumers must carefully check manufacturing and expiration dates printed on packaging, inspect seals, and verify overall product quality. If any item appears doubtful, buyers should refuse the purchase to ensure health and safety remain uncompromised during the festivities.
