Guwahati is gearing up for legislative by-elections across three constituencies within the Bodoland Territorial Council, with election authorities actively updating voter registries. The administrative schedule charts the release of preliminary electoral rolls for Kajalgaon, Darangajuli, and Rowta on November 7, leading up to the publication of finalized voter registries on November 30.
Objections Schedule and Administrative Rules
Citizens wishing to register objections or claims regarding the rolls have until November 21 to submit them. Officials have established a strict deadline of November 27 to resolve every submitted claim and objection. While this voter roll revision marks an essential preparatory milestone, the election authority has not yet disclosed official polling dates for these regions. The registries are compiled under Rule 11 of the Bodoland Territorial Council Election Rules of 2004, utilizing January 1, 2026, as the benchmark qualifying date for eligibility.
Polling Stations and Vacancy Context
Returning officers will officially release polling station directories pursuant to Rule 12(1). Furthermore, administrative appointments for district-level election personnel, returning officers, and assistants have already been formally notified. These upcoming contests became necessary due to resignations and a bereavement among the previous representatives. Paniram Brahma stepped down after winning a seat in the Assam legislative elections, while Charan Boro resigned following his reelection and induction into the state cabinet. The third vacancy in Darangajuli followed the death of the council deputy speaker and BJP figure Bijit Gwra Narzary in August 2026.
