A remarkable natural site in Chhattisgarh's Surguja district is capturing attention for its mysterious and unique features. Located near Mainpat, roughly 35 kilometers away from Ambikapur, Malangri Hill stands out for its scenic beauty and a peculiar water source. A massive rock formation on this elevated hill constantly drips water, drawing curiosity from visitors who travel to witness the sight.
Known as Mainpat Deity
Situated within the Supalga panchayat region of Mainpat, Malangri Hill holds a special place among local residents, who often refer to it as the Mainpat deity. According to local resident Ram Shankar, this location marks the highest point in the area. Reaching the summit offers a panoramic view of sprawling forests, neighboring mountains, and distant villages. Locals state that knowledge of this site was passed down through generations from their ancestors, keeping the location famous within the community for a long time.
Year-Round Water Dripping Phenomenon
The defining characteristic of Malangri Hill is the water that drips from its rock faces, locally called tapka pani. Water droplets continually descend from the mountain stone. Ram Shankar notes that this phenomenon is not limited to the monsoon season; water can be observed dropping even during the peak summer heat of the Vaisakha month. Witnessing water emerge from solid rock astonishes visitors, though the scientific reasons behind this continuous water source still require formal verification.
Hidden Amid Dense Forests and Rugged Paths
Accessing Malangri Hill is far from easy, as the route leading to it is uneven and surrounded by thick forests. Wild animals, including bears, inhabit this forested terrain, making caution necessary for anyone traveling there. Looking down from the mountain reveals Bandarkot village and the surrounding landscape. While the location brims with natural beauty tucked between towering heights and wilderness, the absence of proper tourism infrastructure and secure pathways remains a notable challenge.
Rooted in Ancestral History
The identity of Malangri Hill and its dripping water is deeply rooted in local tradition. Ram Shankar shares that he initially learned about the place from stories and has since visited the site three times to witness the natural wonder firsthand. He believes the location possesses a unique charm that people should experience directly. However, uncovering the precise history, the exact origin of the water, and any underlying religious significance will require further insights from local elders and subject experts.
