In an effort to bring formal learning to underserved children living in the border areas of Rajasthan, a dedicated educational initiative has started in Khajuwala near Bikaner. The facility, named Free Ujjwal Pathshala, focuses on children whose families work in local brick kilns and who have remained away from mainstream schooling due to poverty and migration. Right on the opening day, 30 children were registered for regular classes and received complete sets of study materials without any charges to ensure they can begin learning immediately.
Focusing on migrant families from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar
Explaining the purpose of this intervention, Sunil Mahar shared that the centre is designed specifically to help children of migrant laborers who travel from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar to work in brick kilns. These families relocate far from their native villages in search of livelihood, and constant dislocation coupled with low incomes prevents them from keeping their children in conventional schools. Growing up in difficult working environments, many youngsters end up missing formal schooling entirely. The newly launched learning centre aims to correct this gap by providing consistent daytime instruction and building a strong educational foundation for each child.
Teaching foundational literacy, discipline and good habits
The daily classes will cover foundational literacy, reading, writing, and basic arithmetic. Along with academic basics, the mentors will guide the children on personal hygiene, good habits, discipline, and core social values to encourage all-round development rather than rote classroom work alone. Supporting the venture, brick industry operator Meghraj Siyag praised the work and committed full cooperation, noting that regular education is the only reliable way to improve the future of these children. For migrant families living around the Khajuwala border belt, the initiative provides a practical chance to lead their younger generation away from manual labor toward educated independence.
