A sharp political conflict has erupted in Suratgarh within Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar district following the sudden disappearance of Krishna Kumar, a newly elected municipal representative. Kumar, who secured victory as the Congress councillor from ward number 43, went missing under suspicious circumstances late at night while travelling back from Bikaner. The incident immediately triggered deep anxiety among his family members and neighborhood residents, prompting them to launch urgent public demonstrations seeking his safe recovery.
Traffic Disrupted Outside the DSP Office
Enraged over the lack of information regarding Kumar's whereabouts, relatives and local supporters gathered in front of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) office and mounted a complete road blockade. The sit-in protest on the arterial route brought vehicular movement to an abrupt halt, stranding vehicles and throwing local traffic into disarray. Protesters made it clear that they would continue their demonstration until law enforcement authorities ensure the councillor's safe and prompt return.
Allegations of Political Sabotage and Police Inaction
Family members have pointed fingers directly at the ruling party, alleging a calculated plot to make the councillor disappear in order to disrupt and manipulate the impending vote for the municipal board chairman. No official statement or response has been offered by the ruling camp regarding these allegations. Adding to the tension, the missing councillor's sister, Monika Beniwal, leveled specific accusations against law enforcement personnel. She stated that between 20 and 25 police personnel took her brother away, alongside another brother, after which his whereabouts became entirely unknown. She further alleged that local police officials are refusing to entertain the family's pleas, demanding that he be returned home without delay.

The disappearance comes at an exceptionally delicate moment for local governance in Suratgarh. Following the municipal elections, both the Congress party and the BJP stand on equal footing with 16 councillors each. The remaining board comprises one councillor from the CPI(M) and two independent representatives. With the election for the municipal chairman scheduled for September 21, every single vote carries decisive weight.
