Security arrangements came under severe scrutiny in Rajasthan's Alwar district after thieves targeted a jewellery shop located just 100 metres away from a police station in Pratapgarh. The miscreants broke the shutter of the establishment, entered the premises, and decamped with approximately 2 kg of silver along with other valuables. This brazen incident has triggered immense anger among local traders and residents, who are questioning how such a crime could occur right under the nose of law enforcement.
Substantial Financial Loss Suffered
The theft came to light in the morning, creating a stir across the neighbourhood. Upon discovering the scattered goods inside, the shopkeeper immediately alerted local authorities. Preliminary estimates suggest that the incident has resulted in a loss ranging between 4 to 5 lakh rupees. Business owners in the vicinity expressed deep frustration over the audacity of the criminals, pointing out that proximity to a police station failed to deter the burglary.
Lightning Struck the Same Shop Twice
A striking detail of this case is that the very same shop was targeted by criminals previously as well. Roughly two years ago, on the opening night of Dhanteras, thieves had broken the shutter of this exact establishment. During that earlier heist, around 5 kg of silver and other valuables were stolen. The shopkeeper claimed that the police have failed to crack that previous case to this day. A repeat burglary at the same location has understandably deepened the agony and resentment of the owner.
Police Scrutinizing Footage and Gathering Evidence
Upon receiving information about the break-in, a police team rushed to the scene and inspected the premises. Investigators gathered forensic evidence from the spot and are currently scanning closed-circuit television footage from cameras installed nearby to trace the culprits. Authorities stated that efforts are underway to identify the suspects and crack the case. However, the fact that a second major theft occurred within walking distance of the police station has left the local community deeply dissatisfied with patrolling and safety measures.
