A heartbreaking incident has unfolded in Lohawat within the Phalodi district of Rajasthan, where a 9-year-old child named Bhomaram fell into a massive 1050-feet deep borewell. After an intense rescue operation that stretched continuously for nearly 40 hours, teams finally managed to pull the boy out from the depths, but unfortunately, he could not be saved. The tragic conclusion of this prolonged ordeal has left the entire family and local community in deep grief, despite the relentless efforts put in by various specialized agencies.
The mishap occurred on Thursday afternoon at around 12 PM when young Bhomaram slipped and fell into the extremely deep borewell. He ended up getting stuck at a staggering depth of roughly 640 feet inside the narrow shaft, making the situation critically precarious. As soon as news of the accident broke out, local authorities and rescue units were mobilized instantly to launch a comprehensive extraction operation. Given the immense depth and the highly hostile environment inside the borewell, the rescue workers faced severe hurdles from the very beginning while trying to establish contact and carve a path to the trapped child.
Stumbling Blocks of Stones and Seeping Water
Throughout the duration of the rescue mission, operations were repeatedly hampered by the presence of hard rocks inside the borewell alongside continuous water inflow. These adverse underground conditions forced the teams to constantly adapt and modify their strategies on the fly. Personnel from the NDRF led by Praveen Kumar and the SDRF led by Jagguram worked tirelessly around the clock. Additionally, local borewell rescue expert Madharam and his dedicated team played a crucial role by providing specialized local knowledge and support to navigate the complex underground terrain.
Resort to Indigenous Methods and Heartbreaking Conclusion
When standard mechanical rescue techniques encountered persistent roadblocks due to the surrounding debris and water, the teams pivoted to utilizing indigenous improvised methods to reach the child. Following hours of painstaking effort using these locally adapted techniques, a breakthrough was achieved around 3 AM on Friday night. Bhomaram was successfully brought to the surface, but medical evaluations confirmed that he had already succumbed to the ordeal. His mortal remains were subsequently shifted to the mortuary of the district hospital, marking the tragic end of a gruelling 40-hour battle against time and nature.
