A wave of panic gripped the village of Beherasahi in Odisha after residents spotted a giant King Cobra. The sighting of the massive and venomous snake in the Chuiposhi area of the Kapipada forest range sent shockwaves through the community, as its sheer size terrified onlookers and kept everyone at a safe distance.
Realizing the potential danger, the frightened locals immediately alerted the forest department. Word of the serpent spread rapidly across the village, drawing a crowd near the pond belonging to Ajay Soren, with several residents gathering while carrying sticks.
Forest department personnel and professional snake rescuers arrived at the scene shortly after. However, upon their arrival, the venomous King Cobra slithered from the ground straight into the water of the pond. The rescue team and locals waited patiently by the water for a long period until the snake finally emerged, at which point the team moved quickly to prevent it from escaping back into the depths.
The forest team successfully secured and captured the King Cobra using safe handling techniques. Although encountering such a lethal reptile left witnesses panic-stricken, the rescue operation was conducted with utmost care, ensuring the animal sustained no injuries.
Following the capture, wildlife officials measured the snake using a tape measure, confirming that it was approximately 14 feet in length. The department personnel then transported the reptile away from the populated area and released it safely back into a forest habitat.
A video capturing the incident has since circulated widely on social media platforms. Meanwhile, forest officials praised the villagers for exercising restraint and avoiding any attempt to harm the animal out of panic, emphasizing that wildlife should be protected rather than attacked when fear arises, and proper help should always be sought.
