The Sangwan family from Alwar district in Rajasthan has presented an inspiring testament to this principle. While their father, Rajesh Sangwan, served the nation on the border as an Army soldier, his children carved out an extraordinary academic success story in the medical entrance landscape. Following the path mapped by his elder sister Anuja Sangwan, younger brother Gaurav Sangwan secured All India Rank 9 in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), earning a prized seat at AIIMS Delhi. This achievement represents far more than a competitive exam success, serving as a story of how a sister passed her unfulfilled dream to her brother, who turned it into reality.
Preparation Begins in Kota Back in 2019
The foundation of the siblings' success was laid in 2019 when Anuja decided to pursue her medical ambitions by moving to Kota, Rajasthan's prominent coaching hub. To provide a supportive home environment, their mother Seema Devi and younger brother Gaurav accompanied Anuja to Kota. At that time, their father Rajesh Sangwan was stationed on national border duties with the Indian Army. Living together in a single room in Kota, the siblings spent countess hours studying side by side. Observing his sister's deep academic dedication motivated Gaurav to aim for top ranks. Both children shared a strong academic record from their school years. Anuja had scored 95 percent in Class 10 and 97 percent in Class 12, while Gaurav achieved 92 percent in Class 10 and 90 percent in Class 12.
Sister's Unmet Goal Becomes Brother's Major Motivation
In 2023, Anuja Sangwan cleared the NEET examination on her very first attempt with an impressive score of 640 marks. Despite her strong score, her rank fell slightly short of securing a seat at her dream institution, AIIMS Delhi, and she took admission at ESIC Medical College in Alwar. While missing AIIMS Delhi was a disappointment, Anuja did not allow it to deter her family's ambition. Instead, she transferred the responsibility of fulfilling that dream to her younger brother Gaurav. As she commenced her own MBBS coursework, Anuja began shaping Gaurav's preparation strategy. Drawing from her examination experience, she trained him to adopt a topper mindset, strict daily discipline, and a focused approach to high-level competition.
Daily Phone Mentorship Alongside Rigorous Medical Studies
Even while navigating the intense workload of her medical degree in Alwar, Anuja maintained strict oversight of Gaurav's daily study regimen in Kota. She conducted daily phone sessions to review his academic progress, checking which topics he covered, where he faced difficulties, and how much revision he completed. Whenever college holidays allowed, Anuja traveled directly to Kota to work on Gaurav's specific academic weaknesses in person. She devised a structured timeline and customized study roadmap for him, which Gaurav followed with absolute dedication. Having spent long hours studying together in the same room during their initial years in Kota, the siblings shared a deep mutual understanding that made this remote mentorship highly effective.
A Milestone Admission Before Raksha Bandhan and Future Goals
The combination of Gaurav's hard work and Anuja's constant mentorship culminated in Gaurav securing All India Rank 9 in NEET. The AIIMS Delhi campus that Anuja had once aspired to join has now welcomed Gaurav into its MBBS program. Securing this admission right before the festival of Raksha Bandhan served as a meaningful gift for his elder sister. At present, Anuja is pursuing her fourth year of MBBS, while Gaurav is embarking on his first year at AIIMS Delhi. Recognizing that medical education demands continuous effort, Anuja plans to continue guiding her brother as he prepares for future academic milestones, including competitive examinations like NEET PG.
