Internationally recognized sand artist Ajay Rawat has sculpted a striking and lifelike statue of deity Baba Ramdev using sand and soil. The temporary artwork has quickly emerged as a major point of interest for both local residents and visiting devotees.
Crafting the Sand Sculpture in Two Hours
Ajay Rawat, a resident of Ganaheda village near Pushkar, devoted roughly two hours of meticulous labor to shape the fine sand and soil into the iconic image of Baba Ramdev. The artwork highlights intricate craftsmanship, carefully carving out facial features and traditional attire to bring the deity's likeness to life. Passersby and pilgrims traveling along the route frequently pause to admire the craftsmanship and offer prayers before the sand installation.
Pilgrim Journeys and Public Devotion
The creation of the sand sculpture coincides with the peak movement of devotees heading toward Ramdevra. Thousands of people from various regions are undertaking long journeys, with many traveling on foot, carrying religious flags, or leading decorated horses. The sand sculpture serves as a visual expression of this spiritual fervor, providing a quiet space along the travel route where worshippers halt to bow down, offer homage, and seek blessings for peace and health.
Seventeen Years of Sand Art and Social Awareness
Ajay Rawat has been actively practicing sand art for 17 years. Throughout his career, he has used sand sculptures to highlight numerous social and civic causes alongside religious subjects. His past creations have focused on environmental preservation, water conservation, the Save Girl Child movement, national celebrations, and public health awareness drives. His latest creation dedicated to Baba Ramdev continues this tradition of blending public art with cultural and religious themes.
