Weather conditions across various regions of Rajasthan have undergone a complete shift, effectively putting an end to the oppressive heatwave in both eastern and western parts of the state. According to the latest reports from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), areas within the Bikaner, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer, and Kota divisions are likely to experience moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning over the next three to four days. Authorities have issued warnings for potentially destructive dust storms, with wind speeds ranging between 60 to 80 kilometers per hour in sensitive zones. An orange alert has been specifically issued for the Baran and Jhalawar districts, where residents are advised to avoid taking shelter under trees or weak structures during adverse weather.
Impact of active weather systems
This major shift in the climate is attributed to several active weather systems. A seasonal trough line currently extending from Punjab to Bihar, passing through Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, is actively influencing the region. Furthermore, a Western Disturbance in the form of a cyclonic circulation is present at an altitude of 3.1 to 5.8 kilometers in the atmosphere over Haryana and surrounding areas. The combined effect of these systems has entirely neutralized the heatwave in Rajasthan, replacing it with rain, thunderstorms, and intense lightning events. The sudden drop in temperature has provided significant relief to the public, with a statewide decline in mercury levels.
Jaipur and surrounding districts
The capital city of Jaipur and its neighboring districts including Alwar, Dausa, and Kotputli-Behror are witnessing the most pronounced effects of pre-monsoon activity. The Meteorological Centre in Jaipur has issued both yellow and orange alerts for the region. Expectations are for thick cloud cover over the city, with sudden bursts of heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds blowing at 40 to 50 kilometers per hour. On June 27, the maximum temperature in Jaipur was recorded at 39.8 degrees Celsius, and a further decline in temperatures is anticipated in the coming days.
Dust storms in Western Rajasthan
The districts of Western Rajasthan, specifically within the Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions, are also experiencing a change in weather. While Bikaner previously recorded the highest state temperature at 43.2 degrees Celsius, the IMD now predicts light to moderate rainfall with thunder in these areas. Gusty winds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour are expected in Nagaur, Phalodi, and Jodhpur. With the exception of arid zones like Jaisalmer and Barmer, most of the western region is expected to have pleasant weather, characterized by dust storms and light showers.
Rainfall outlook for Udaipur and Kota
Conditions in South-Eastern Rajasthan, including Udaipur, Kota, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, and Jhalawar, have become highly favorable for the arrival of the monsoon. An orange alert has been issued for Jhalawar and Baran due to the high risk of 60-80 km/h winds, lightning strikes, and potential hail. Recent data shows 5.0 mm of rainfall in Udaipur and up to 23.0 mm in Pratapgarh. The weather department has advised vigilance in these areas as heavy rainfall could significantly impact daily life.
