A tragic incident occurred in the Sardarshahar area of Churu district, Rajasthan, on Tuesday evening, claiming the life of a senior education official. Birbal Mew, a 45-year-old principal posted at a nearby government higher secondary institution, suddenly lost consciousness while exercising at a local fitness center. Despite immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation attempted on the spot, medical professionals at a healthcare facility subsequently pronounced him deceased. The entire sequence was captured by the facility's internal security cameras, with the footage emerging on Wednesday.
Sudden Collapse During Evening Workout
According to Vijay Potliya, general secretary of the Rajasthan Teachers Union, Birbal had arrived at the gym around 6 pm on Tuesday accompanied by his younger daughter, Kavita. After spending some time exercising, he stepped onto a treadmill around 7 pm. While running, he abruptly collapsed onto the floor and lost consciousness, alarming others present in the workout hall.
Immediate Resuscitation Attempts and Medical Evaluation
The gym operator reacted without delay, reaching the fallen educator within seconds. The operator administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation for approximately two minutes in a determined bid to restore breathing and responsiveness. Given the absence of any recovery, he was rushed to a nearby private medical facility. Attending physicians examined him upon arrival and formally declared him dead, indicating in their preliminary observations that a sudden cardiac episode likely caused the fatal collapse.
Hospital Procedures and Post-Mortem Examination
Dr. Chandrabhan Jangid, in-charge of the Sardarshahar Sub-District Hospital, explained that Birbal's body was transferred from the private clinic to the mortuary of the sub-district hospital on Tuesday evening for safekeeping. On Wednesday morning, following the arrival of his grieving family members, medical staff carried out the statutory post-mortem examination before handing over the mortal remains. Dr. Jangid stated that the conclusive cause of death would be established once the detailed autopsy findings are finalized.

Birbal Mew had spent nearly twenty years serving within the public educational sector. His professional journey began in 2006, when he secured his initial appointment as a school lecturer in Sandwa village, located in the Bidasar tehsil of Churu district's Sujangarh region. While originally hailing from Nimrasar village, situated approximately 40 kilometers away from Sardarshahar, Birbal had settled in Sardarshahar alongside his wife and two young daughters. His elder daughter, Rithika, is a class 10 student enrolled at Navodaya Vidyalaya, while his younger daughter, Kavita, studies in class 5.
