Farmers and agricultural consumers in Rajasthan's Sikar district have received a major boost right before the commencement of the Rabi crop sowing season. The regional electricity corporation has commissioned 7 long-under-construction commercial solar power plants, linking them directly to the local distribution network. These newly activated units contribute an additional 57,000 units of electricity daily to the regional power supply. With agricultural irrigation demands set to surge, this enhanced localized generation is positioned to fortify the rural grid infrastructure and ensure more dependable power for farm operations.
Solar Output Reaches 12 Lakh Units Daily via Kusum and Rooftop Schemes
With the operationalization of these 7 commercial plants, the total count of functional solar units under Component-A and Component-C of the PM Kusum Scheme in Sikar district has risen to 73. The combined generation capacity of these 73 installations stands at approximately 130 MW. Together, they now channel around 7.80 lakh units of clean solar energy into the regional power grid every single day, giving local electricity managers direct access to substantial eco-friendly power supplies.
Alongside utility-scale plants under the Kusum framework, residential rooftop setups under the PM Surya Ghar Scheme are delivering significant volumes of energy. To date, rooftop solar panels have been installed across more than 19,500 homes in Sikar, yielding a cumulative generation capacity of around 70 MW. These household setups generate nearly 4.20 lakh units of power daily. Combining the 7.80 lakh units from PM Kusum facilities with the 4.20 lakh units from PM Surya Ghar, Sikar district now generates roughly 12 lakh units of solar power per day.
Meeting Sikar's Heavy Rabi Season Demand and Grid Stability
Agricultural power requirement spikes sharply during the Rabi season when farmers run tube wells and pump sets for field irrigation. Data indicates that Sikar's daily agricultural power demand rises to around 125 lakh units during peak sowing months. Historically, high localized loads fed by distant central generating stations led to transformer overloads, voltage drop issues, and unexpected tripping across rural agricultural feeders.
Generating power locally fundamentally alters distribution logistics. Power produced by distributed solar units feeds directly into nearby Grid Sub-Stations (GSS), eliminating reliance on high-voltage transmission over long distances. Feeding sub-stations directly reduces transformer load and line losses. Consequently, voltage stability on agricultural feeders improves markedly, mitigating low-voltage complaints and enabling farmers to irrigate fields without abrupt power outages.
Location Breakdown of New Solar Plants and Future Expansion
The technical configuration and geographical distribution of the 7 newly activated solar plants outline the regional grid expansion. In Beri, two separate 2 MW capacity plants have gone operational, generating approximately 24,000 units daily. In Kirodoli, a larger 15 MW commercial solar plant has started generation. Additionally, 1 MW plants have been brought online in Chhoti Losal, Sihot, Bharni, and Bhagega. Combined, these 7 sites supply 57,000 units of fresh electricity to the grid each day.
Subhash Devanda, Superintending Engineer (SE) at Sikar Electricity Corporation, highlighted that capacity expansion remains actively ongoing. Preparations for installing two additional solar plants in Gungara are near completion, with operational commissioning expected by the end of this month. These upcoming Gungara units are projected to yield an extra 25,000 units daily. Industry standards indicate that a 1 MW solar setup produces roughly 6,000 units of electricity daily on average, indicating that Sikar's localized generation footprint will continue expanding over the coming months.
