A devastating road collision claimed the lives of five people in Assam's Sonitpur district late Friday night. The fatal crash took place along National Highway 15 when a passenger car collided head-on with a commercial truck. The impact of the collision was severe, resulting in the immediate death of all five individuals travelling inside the smaller vehicle.
Late-Night Collision Near Balipara Petrol Pump
The incident occurred in the Balipara locality, situated within the jurisdictional limits of the Rangapara Police Station. According to police officials, the two vehicles collided directly near a local petrol pump as traffic moved along the highway during late hours. The intensity of the crash left the car completely mangled.
All Five Car Occupants Identified
Authorities confirmed that none of the occupants in the car survived the impact. The deceased individuals were identified as Gobinda Hazarika, Nayan Swargiary, Papu Bora, Pranjal Bania, and Sanjay Mech. Their bodies were recovered from the damaged wreckage and processed for required post-mortem and administrative formalities.
Police Launch Search for Fleeing Truck Driver
Following the crash, the driver of the commercial truck abandoned the vehicle and fled the area immediately. Law enforcement officers have initiated a formal inquiry into the sequence of events leading up to the collision. Search efforts are currently underway to locate the missing driver and determine whether overspeeding or mechanical failure contributed to the disaster.
Traffic Cleared Along National Highway 15
The wreckage temporarily halted vehicular movement on the vital highway corridor, causing a brief disruption for late-night commuters. Emergency teams and police personnel quickly arrived on the scene, secured the area, and removed the damaged vehicles from the carriageway.
