A 15-year-old boy named Shivam died after being electrocuted near his maternal relatives' village in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district on Monday, after coming into contact with an electrified wire fence bordering a farm.
Boy was on his way to the fields when tragedy struck
According to initial information, Shivam was staying with his maternal grandparents in Bamanwas village, close to the Chirawa area. On Monday, he was walking towards the fields when he touched a wire fence running along the edge of the farmland that had live electric current flowing through it. The shock badly burned him and he collapsed unconscious on the spot.
Rushed to hospital, declared dead
As soon as family members learned of the accident, they rushed Shivam to the Chirawa sub-district hospital for emergency treatment. By the time he reached the hospital, his condition had already deteriorated. Doctors examined him and, after finding no signs of life, declared him dead. The severe burns from the current are believed to have been fatal even before he could be brought in.
Police reach hospital, launch investigation
Following the incident, police from the Chirawa station also reached the sub-district hospital. Officers questioned family members and villagers to piece together how the accident happened. Police are now working to establish exactly how and why the fence carried a live current. Initial findings point to contact with the electrified wire fence as the cause of death.
