An appalling incident of brutality and public shaming has surfaced from Aajna village under the Arthuna police station area in Rajasthan's Banswara district. A video showing a crowd physically assaulting a woman, cutting her hair, and tearing her clothes has sparked widespread outrage. The harrowing footage features a large gathering of men and women surrounding a lone victim, subjecting her to horrific humiliation in full public view.
Seven Arrested and FIR Registered
Acting swiftly on the matter, local authorities have registered an FIR against 10 individuals and detained seven suspects so far. The horrific episode took place on September 1 in Aajna village, though it came to light on Thursday after the video surfaced online. The footage shows the victim being forced to walk barefoot through the village streets while reportedly being beaten with sticks. Furthermore, allegations have been made that some women in the crowd tore her clothes and paraded her in a semi-nude state. Numerous villagers stood by as mute spectators, with some recording the assault on their mobile phones instead of stepping in to help.
Family Dispute and Official Investigation
According to police statements, the victim's husband and relatives accused her of leaving home with a young man. In her complaint to law enforcement, the woman clarified that she had merely gone out with the individual to perform labor work. She stated that her husband and family members assaulted her, cropped her hair, ripped her garments, and humiliated her in front of the community. She subsequently approached the local police station to file a formal complaint. Arthuna Station House Officer Vinod Kumar confirmed that an FIR has been lodged based on her statement, adding that her medical examination was conducted and her statement was duly recorded for further legal proceedings.
Apathy of the Crowd and Ongoing Probe
Throughout the ordeal captured on camera, the victim can be seen desperately trying to shield herself and escape her attackers, but no one from the surrounding crowd intervened. The surfacing of the video has triggered immense public anger over the breakdown of social order and safety.
