The ancient Hanuman temple located in the Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh continues to stand as a major center of deep faith for devotees. According to local belief, prayers offered with a pure heart at this sacred shrine never go unanswered, as Lord Hanuman fulfills the wishes of those who seek his blessings. Because of this unwavering devotion, large crowds of worshippers gather at the complex every day, arriving not only from within Gonda but also from several neighboring districts.
An Idol Arrived at the Temple on a Cart
Sharing an intriguing event linked to the shrine, Mahant Rajan Maharaj explained how the new idol came to be placed within the premises. During the previous Navratri festival, a man arrived at the temple early in the morning pushing a handcart carrying a statue of Lord Hanuman. The individual explained that the idol had originally been installed in a nearby village. However, due to a lack of proper arrangements, regular daily prayers could not be performed there. Realizing that the deity required a sanctified space with consistent rituals, he decided to bring the idol to this renowned temple.
Sacred Consecration Performed Under Shitala Mata Shrine
Upon receiving the idol, the temple authorities decided to permanently establish it within the compound. Mahant Rajan Maharaj along with his father performed the sacred pran-pratishtha consecration ceremonies strictly adhering to Vedic rituals. The image of Lord Hanuman was solemnly installed right beneath the existing Shitala Mata temple. Since that day, ritual worship has been conducted without interruption, drawing even larger numbers of devotees seeking the deity's grace.
Vibrant Atmosphere on Tuesdays, Saturdays, and Festivals
The shrine witnesses exceptionally large gatherings every Tuesday and Saturday. From the early morning hours, worshippers assemble to perform puja, recite the Hanuman Chalisa, and chant the Sundarkand. The spiritual fervor reaches its peak during major religious occasions such as the auspicious month of Sawan, Hanuman Jayanti, and Bada Mangal celebrations. According to Rajan Maharaj, anyone who comes with genuine faith finds relief from life's troubles and receives blessings of prosperity and happiness. The serene ambiance of the surroundings offers visitors a profound sense of spiritual peace.
Ritual Offerings and Community Feeds
Devotees visiting the shrine offer sindoor, jasmine oil, coconuts, and traditional sweets like laddus to Lord Hanuman. When their prayers are answered, many worshippers mark the fulfillment of their wishes by organizing bhandaras, where free meals and prasadam are distributed to the gathering. Throughout the day, the temple echoes with chants of 'Jai Shree Ram' and 'Jai Bajrangbali', as pilgrims from across the region and different parts of the country arrive to pay their respects.
