A remarkable act of philanthropy performed four decades ago in the Lalbagh area of Burhanpur district, Madhya Pradesh, continues to serve as a beacon of faith. Inspired by the teachings of saint Surdas Maharaj, Master Farate donated a prime parcel of land valued at approximately Rs 30 lakh specifically for building a shrine. Today, the Shri Vitthal Rukmini Temple built on this land stands as a major center of pilgrimage for devotees from near and far.
Four Decades of Faith and Marble Idols
The construction of the Shri Vitthal Rukmini Temple was completed around 40 years ago through the combined efforts of local residents and a dedicated shrine management committee. The sanctum sanctorum houses beautifully sculpted marble idols of Lord Vitthal and Goddess Rukmini. According to temple priest Harish Maharaj, the generous land donation provided the foundation for the entire community to come together and construct this holy structure, which now sees a continuous stream of visitors daily.
Blessings for Marriage and Childbirth
Devotees hold deep spiritual convictions regarding the divine grace of this temple. According to local belief, couples who pray at the shrine seeking blessings for offspring or a swift marriage find their wishes fulfilled. Once their prayers are answered, devotees return to offer a special dish called Gopal Kala prasad as a token of gratitude. Numerous families whose prayers were answered make annual visits to express their continued devotion.
Varkari Tradition and Devotee Footfall
The shrine is deeply connected with the traditions of the Varkari Sampraday. Due to this spiritual lineage, a vast number of pilgrims travel from neighboring Maharashtra alongside devotees from across Madhya Pradesh. The temple hosts three major annual religious events, with Guru Pujan and Ashadhi Gyaras being the most prominent. During these occasions, massive community feasts are organized where thousands of devotees partake in the sacred food offerings.
