The holy month of Sawan 2026 is scheduled to commence on Thursday, July 30, 2026. Highly revered as an auspicious time to seek the blessings and grace of Lord Shiva, this sacred period witnesses millions of devotees observing fasts and performing specialized rituals at Shiva shrines. Furthermore, the month holds tremendous religious significance for the annual Kanwar Yatra pilgrimage.
Kanwar Yatra Traditions and Auspicious Jalabhisheka
With the arrival of Shravan, Kanwariyas set out on their sacred journey while continuously chanting "Bol Bam" in devotion to Lord Shiva. Carrying holy Gangajal fetched from prominent pilgrimage destinations, pilgrims trek to their local Shiva temples to perform Jalabhisheka. Offering Kanwar water on the day of Sawan Shivratri is considered the most meritorious occasion of the month.
Fasting during Sawan carries profound spiritual importance. While some believers choose to observe a continuous fast throughout the entire month, many others keep fasts exclusively on Sawan Mondays and on Sawan Shivratri.

Step-by-Step Method for Performing Shivling Worship
Worshipping the Shivling throughout Sawan involves a straightforward and clear process. Devotees should take a clean vessel filled with pure water directly from home when visiting the Shiva temple. Alongside water, ensure to carry belpatra leaves, fresh flowers, dhatura, bhang, a ghee lamp, and prasad for offering.
Upon reaching the temple, commence the ritual by gently offering water over the Shivling. Following the water offering, present the flowers, belpatra, bhang, and dhatura on the deity. Next, light the ghee lamp and place it respectfully in front of the Shivling before offering the prasad. Devotees should reserve a portion of the offered prasad to bring back home to share with family members. Following this accessible method allows devotees to maintain daily worship across the holy month of Sawan.
