Ahead of National Sports Day celebrated on August 29, a major national interaction was organized to motivate young athletes and students across the country. Titled 'Khelo India Dialogue: Khel Ki Baat, Prime Minister Modi Ke Sath', this event saw Prime Minister Narendra Modi connect with lakhs of young sports enthusiasts, emerging athletes, and youth leaders via video conferencing. The interactive session was held simultaneously across more than 1,500 educational institutions nationwide, reinforcing the crucial role of physical activities and sports in overall personality development.
Focusing on Grassroots Talent Identification
During the interaction, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that creating a robust sports culture requires identifying hidden talent right from the grassroots level. The government aims to bring forward talented individuals from small towns, villages, and remote areas by connecting them with modern opportunities. The dialogue covered several core dimensions essential for strengthening the sports ecosystem in India, including the following key areas
- Sports Infrastructure: Expanding access to quality sporting equipment and training facilities in non-metropolitan regions.
- Early Talent Scouting: Identifying promising young athletes through structured competitions at school and district levels.
- Sports Science and Training: Implementing modern coaching techniques, physical conditioning, and sports science support.
- Career Security for Athletes: Developing long-term support systems to make sports a viable career option for youth.
New Encouraging Mantra and Early Greetings
Highlighting the transformative power of sports, the Prime Minister gave a memorable new slogan to the nation's youth. He stated, "Jo Khelega, Wo Khilega" (Those who play will blossom). He explained that participation in sports instills discipline, resilience, and teamwork beyond mere physical fitness. On this occasion, he also extended his advance wishes for National Sports Day on August 29 to all athletes, coaches, and sports enthusiasts across India.
Aligning with the 2036 Olympic Vision
A significant highlight of the event was its alignment with India's long-term vision for the 2036 Olympic Games. Through the 'Khelo India' campaign, the government is working to extend resources to underprivileged regions where athletic potential exists but facilities have historically been lacking. During the session, youth participants shared constructive ideas on measures needed to elevate India's standing in international sports. The overall objective is to build a pool of world-class athletes well in advance to ensure strong performances on international podiums in the coming years.
