Delhi Metro to Commence Early 3:30 AM Operations for Vedanta Half Marathon Runners with Fare-Free Travel

Delhi Metro will begin operations from 3:30 AM across four major corridors on Sunday, October 18, offering fare-free rides via QR wristbands for Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon participants.

Extensive transit arrangements have been established across the capital to support runners participating in the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon scheduled for Sunday, October 18. In view of the event taking place at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has scheduled early morning operations across four crucial lines. Instead of waiting for standard Sunday opening hours, participants will be able to board trains starting at 3:30 AM from terminal stations, ensuring timely arrival at the competition venue.

Early Services Planned Across Four Major Corridors

The specialized early morning timetable will be operational across the Red Line, Yellow Line, Blue Line, and Violet Line terminal facilities. Passengers travelling along the Red Line can board between Rithala and Shaheed Sthal New Bus Adda. On the Yellow Line, trains will connect Samaypur Badli with Millennium City Centre Gurugram. The Blue Line will cater to runners journeying from Dwarka Sector-21 toward both Noida Electronic City and Vaishali, while the Violet Line will provide connectivity running from Kashmere Gate through to Raja Nahar Singh (Ballabhgarh).

Train Frequency and Early Morning Timetable

A structured operating schedule will regulate service intervals before regular Sunday schedules take over. Between 3:30 AM and 4:15 AM, trains on these four active corridors will arrive at 15-minute intervals. From 4:15 AM until 6:00 AM, the interval between consecutive trains will shift to 20 minutes. Once the clock strikes 6:00 AM, all four corridors will transition directly into their regular Sunday timetable. All other lines across the metro network will follow standard Sunday opening hours without early adjustments.

Station Volunteers and Fare-Free Commute Provision

To assist runners navigating transit hubs near the race venue, event organizers are deploying dedicated volunteers at JLN Stadium, Jor Bagh, Janpath, and Jangpura stations. Additionally, registered participants will not have to bear travel costs to and from the venue, as the event organizers are covering the entire metro fare. DMRC has already supplied the requisite volume of QR tickets to the organizers based on standard fare structures. Runners can claim this complimentary travel benefit by collecting a specialized QR-coded wristband along with their official running bib directly from the organizers.
