Indian mixed martial arts athlete Varun Sanyal was taken to a hospital after collapsing during an intense weight reduction session ahead of an upcoming bout. Varun was working to meet the official weight requirements for his scheduled Sunday contest and was utilizing a sauna aboard a cruise ship to shed extra kilos. The physical strain caused him to lose consciousness, prompting rapid medical intervention. Officials have confirmed that his condition is stable following evaluation and care.
Timely Intervention by a Fellow Athlete
The situation came to light when an athlete from Nepal noticed Varun collapsed in the sauna area and acted quickly to revive him. Once partially conscious, Varun managed to place a phone call for assistance. The support team responded without delay and arranged for his immediate transfer to a medical facility to rule out severe complications.
Official Health Update and Return to Quarters
Nikhil Kundera, president of the Indian MMA sports federation, stated that timely medical intervention ensured there was no lasting danger to the athlete's health. After receiving the necessary medical attention, Varun was discharged and brought back to the cruise at around 3 am. Varun, who is the son of Sanjeev Sanyal, a member of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council, is now in stable condition and recovering well.
