There is a wave of celebration these days at the home of Ajay Kumar Gupta in the Shahmir Takiya area of Gaya, Bihar. Gupta, who retired from the Railway Mail Service a few years ago, now sees all three of his children settled in good jobs. The latest joy has come from his youngest son, Kumar Aman, who has cleared the 70th BPSC examination and secured the post of revenue officer.

Each of the three children has succeeded on a path of their own. The elder son, Kumar Abhishek, works as an Assistant Branch Manager at the Bank of India branch in Wazirganj, in Gaya district. The daughter is employed as a Junior Associate at State Bank of India in Gujarat. And now the youngest son's achievement has doubled the family's happiness.

From engineering to revenue officer

Kumar Aman is currently posted as an ATC officer, an air traffic controller, at Kolkata Airport. He completed his engineering studies at IIT Roorkee. After his early schooling in Gaya, he moved to Kota, where he prepared for engineering entrance exams. He got admission to IIT Roorkee in his very first attempt, and after finishing engineering he landed a placement in the tech sector.

After working in a private job for some time, Kumar Aman applied for a government position and today serves as an air traffic controller at Kolkata Airport. Alongside this, he kept up his preparation for the BPSC.

Two to three hours of daily study after work

Kumar Aman says preparing for an exam like the BPSC while holding a job was far from easy. After his duty hours ended, he studied regularly for two to three hours every day, and it was this discipline that brought him success.

His elder brother Kumar Abhishek, the Assistant Branch Manager at Bank of India, says the three siblings always studied together, and today all three are in good positions. For him, it is a moment of pride for the family. He recalls that whenever any of them ran into a difficulty during their studies, they sat down together and sorted it out. All three were strong students from childhood, which is why each found a job soon after completing their education.

A strong foundation from school

Ajay Kumar Gupta says both sons studied at Crane Memorial School in Gaya, while his daughter studied in the DAV Cant area of Gaya. Parents Ajay Kumar Gupta and Anita Gupta are overjoyed at the success of all three children.

Mother Anita Gupta says that because her husband worked in the railways, the full responsibility of raising the children fell on her. Today, with all three settled in respected positions, that hard work feels truly worthwhile.

What this means for you

  • For aspirants: The story shows that even while holding a full-time job, two to three hours of regular daily study can be enough to clear an exam like the BPSC.
  • In Gaya and Bihar: It is an example for families with limited resources that strong schooling and steady effort can take children to major government and banking posts.

Inspiration & Lessons

  • Discipline alongside a job: Kumar Aman studied two to three hours every day after his duty, proving that lack of time is no excuse and consistency is the real key.
  • Studying together: The three siblings sat and studied together and solved problems among themselves, which helped all of them succeed.
  • Focus on the first attempt: Aman prepared in a focused way in Kota and earned a seat at IIT Roorkee on his very first attempt.
  • Moving beyond the comfort zone: Even after landing a private tech-sector job, he did not abandon the bigger goal of a government post and the BPSC.
