Conducted at the RSETI center in Usaini, the program offers free training in converting cow dung into decorative idols, traditional diyas, and incense items. The initiative aims to equip women, who are typically restricted to domestic duties, with the practical skills needed to establish their own home-based micro-enterprises.
Empowering Rural Women with Home-Based Income Opportunities
In many rural communities, women aspire to earn an independent income and contribute to their family expenses. However, social and familial constraints often prevent them from seeking traditional employment outside the home. The cow dung processing initiative directly addresses this barrier by enabling women to manufacture goods within their domestic environment. Trainees learn to dry cow dung, grind it into a fine powder, and blend it with natural binding agents to craft Lakshmi-Ganesh idols, earthen-style lamps, dhoop sticks, and incense products. These bio-friendly goods enjoy consistent consumer demand, particularly during festive seasons.
Structured 13-Day Entrepreneurship Development Training
The workshop is organized under the Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) for micro-entrepreneurs. According to trainer Rahul Saxena, the training schedule spans approximately 13 days and is tailored for local rural women as well as members of self-help groups. Rahul Saxena noted that previous training cohorts have already established successful home operations and are currently generating steady monthly returns. The current session covers raw material collection, formulation techniques, molding methods, and basic product marketing strategies.
Overcoming Domestic Constraints Through Craftsmanship
Participants in the workshop have shared positive feedback regarding the accessible structure of the course. Taruna Bhardwaj, a resident of Tundla who previously spent her entire day managing house chores, learned about the free classes through a neighbor. Taruna Bhardwaj explained that mastering idol fabrication and lamp molding allows her to start a production setup right in her house. Similarly, self-help group member Umlesh stated that while outside job permissions were unavailable to her, creating cow dung crafts at home offers a flexible, dignified path to income generation.
Institutional Financial Assistance and Business Loan Support
To ensure that trained individuals can transition smoothly into commercial production, the Usaini RSETI center provides post-training financial facilitation. Trainer Rahul Saxena confirmed that participants requiring capital to launch their ventures will receive direct assistance in securing business loans through the center. This credit access enables women to purchase necessary tools, packaging, and raw materials. By combining free technical instruction with accessible bank credit, the program is fostering sustainable cottage industry growth across rural Firozabad.
