Stepping away from the predictable security of a monthly paycheck to build something of one's own requires immense courage. In the locality of Najafgarh in Delhi, Lakshya Kalia and his wife Anjali Kalia decided to break free from traditional employment to chart their own entrepreneurial path. Leaving behind the rigid schedules of corporate offices and laboratories, the couple established their venture under the name Love Light. The brand name itself carries a personal touch, derived directly from the name of their young son, Love.
Before taking the plunge, Lakshya was working a private job in Gurugram, while Anjali served as a lab technician. Although their lives were stable, both shared a persistent aspiration to build an independent path. Frustrated by the corporate restrictions and the lack of autonomy in decision-making, they resolved to become job providers rather than job seekers. They realized that running an independent enterprise would not only grant them personal freedom but also enable them to create meaningful livelihood opportunities for others in society.
The business initially took off with the production of handmade scented candles. In the early days, the couple crafted every single candle entirely by themselves. Eventually, they expanded their creative footprint into crochet products. They firmly believe that crochet is not merely an art form, but a medium deeply connected to human emotions and nostalgia. The memories of sweaters and woolen items crafted lovingly by grandmothers still resonate deeply with people. The couple reinterpreted this traditional craft through a fresh, modern aesthetic.
Today, Love Light features an extensive catalogue of handcrafted goods. Their offerings include intricate crochet flowers, designer Rakhis, hair scrunchies, women accessories, scented candles, refrigerator magnets, and unique gift items. Since every single item is meticulously crafted by hand, each piece carries its own distinct charm and individuality, setting them apart from mass-produced factory items.
A notable aspect of this venture is its community impact. The enterprise currently collaborates with more than 50 women based in regions like Delhi, Faridabad, and Shimla. These artisans prepare various products right from their homes, allowing them to earn independently. Lakshya shares that the most rewarding moment comes when an affiliated woman expresses gratitude, telling him that this work has provided her with a reliable source of livelihood.
Financially, abandoning stable jobs proved to be a lucrative turning point. The founders report that their earnings have surpassed their previous salaries, pulling in profits exceeding 50,000 rupees every single month. However, they emphasize that financial gains pale in comparison to the absolute freedom of making their own professional choices. Anjali notes that their sales experience a significant surge during festive periods. Celebrations like Rakshabandhan, Teej, Navratri, and Diwali witness a sharp spike in demand for their handcrafted goods, driving their revenues even higher.
