Born to a peanut vendor in a small village of Bihar, Mohit Kumar demonstrated strong academic inclination from his early school days. His fascination with computing led him to pursue a bachelor’s degree in computer science. Building upon his foundational knowledge, he subsequently completed a Master of Science in Information Technology (M.Sc. IT), establishing a solid grounding in computational theory and applications.
Aiming to dedicate his career to higher education and scholarly research, Mohit undertook rigorous preparation for competitive academic assessments. Through persistent study, he cleared both the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) and the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). These achievements paved the way for doctoral research and a promising academic career, setting the stage for his aspiration to guide future generations of students.
Brain Tumor Diagnosis and Life-Altering Surgery
While preparing to launch his academic career, Mohit began experiencing severe health symptoms. Detailed diagnostic evaluations revealed the presence of a brain tumor, prompting medical specialists in Patna and Bengaluru to recommend immediate surgical intervention.
Medical professionals cautioned Mohit and his family about the extreme hazards associated with the procedure. The surgery carried significant risks, including coma, paralysis, loss of vital sensory faculties, or fatal outcomes. Prioritizing life over uncertainty, Mohit opted to proceed with the operation. Although the surgery and subsequent chemotherapy successfully removed the tumor, the medical treatment resulted in the complete and permanent loss of his vision in both eyes.
Adaptive Rehabilitation at Dehradun Institute
Faced with a sudden transition to permanent blindness at a stage when most young professionals establish their careers, Mohit chose adaptation over despair. Determined to regain independence, he sought specialized support and enrolled at the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities (NIEPVD) located in Dehradun.
At the Dehradun facility, Mohit joined the comprehensive Adjustment Training program designed to assist individuals with visual impairments. The curriculum focuses on essential daily living skills, orientation, mobility, and digital accessibility techniques. Under structured guidance, he has been mastering adaptive tools to navigate both daily routines and specialized academic software.

Maintaining his academic focus, Mohit continues to pursue his long-term career aspirations. Reflecting on his journey, Mohit Kumar said, "Loss of vision slowed my steps, but they have not stopped." Following the completion of his training at the institute, he plans to draft research papers in computer science.
