An inspiring story of academic determination has emerged from the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, where a young woman from a modest rural background has earned a prestigious admission to higher education. Vineeta Koundal, a resident of Tour Jajar village under the Mandap sub-tehsil, has secured a seat in the M.Tech Research program at the School of Biosciences and Bioengineering at IIT Mandi. Her transition from a small village to one of India’s premier technical institutions has brought immense pride to her family and surrounding region.
Success Across GATE and CSIR-NET Examinations
Vineeta demonstrated exceptional academic excellence by securing an All India Rank of 4074 in the GATE-XL examination, achieving a GATE score of 408. Building on this achievement, she also successfully cleared both the June and December sessions of the CSIR-NET examinations held in the year 2025. Her consistent performance across these competitive national-level assessments paved the way for her selection into the research-focused postgraduate curriculum at IIT Mandi, illustrating how perseverance produces outstanding results.
Academic Pathway from Mandap School to Central University
The groundwork for Vineeta’s success began in her native locality within the Dharampur assembly constituency. She completed her early schooling at the government school in Mandap before moving on to pursue higher studies. She earned her B.Sc. degree from the Central University located in Dharamshala. Moving progressively from a rural government school to a central university and now to a national institute of technology, her educational trajectory demonstrates the academic potential present in rural communities.
Overcoming Financial Constraints with Family Support
Vineeta belongs to a household that has navigated significant economic constraints. Her father, Khem Chand, operates a small tailoring shop in the Mandap market, while her mother, Gita Devi, works as an Anganwadi assistant. Along with her parents, Vineeta's family includes one brother. Despite their limited resources, Khem Chand and Gita Devi ensured that their daughter’s education remained an absolute priority, consistently encouraging her ambitions. Vineeta attributes her success entirely to the support of her parents, the encouragement of her family, and the mentorship of her teachers.
Community Celebration and Inspiring Example
News of Vineeta’s achievement has brought widespread joy across Tour Jajar village and the broader Mandap area. This milestone holds special meaning for her family, which also recently celebrated her aunt winning the local Panchayat Pradhan election. Vineeta’s success serves as compelling proof that financial limitations do not dictate an individual's capabilities when supported by dedication and hard work.
