Grand Theft Auto VI is now officially up for preorder on PS5 and Xbox through Rockstar's own storefront, and the wait that has stretched for years is finally entering its final stretch. There's no physical disc edition on offer, so buyers are choosing between two digital tiers: the Standard Edition at $79.99 or the Ultimate Edition at $99.99, which bundles in a long list of extras to justify the jump in price. What isn't obvious on the surface is that both editions also quietly enroll buyers in a recurring subscription called GTA+.
What a GTA VI preorder actually gets you
Every preorder, regardless of edition, comes bundled with a free month of GTA+, Rockstar's paid online subscription service. Rockstar's own preorder page lists GTA$500,000 deposited straight into a player's GTA Online bank account as part of the deal, that figure being in-game Grand Theft Auto dollars rather than real currency. Subscribers also receive Shark Cards loaded with a 15% GTA$ bonus, a mix of free and discounted vehicles inside GTA Online, and access to a sizeable chunk of Rockstar's back catalog. That catalog spans Red Dead Redemption, Bully, GTA: The Trilogy, The Definitive Edition, L.A. Noire, and now even Grand Theft Auto V.
The free month starts ticking as soon as you preorder
Grand Theft Auto VI itself won't launch until Nov. 19, but the GTA+ credit tied to a preorder becomes usable immediately. That means players don't have to wait for launch day to explore Vice City, they can dive into GTA Online or any of the eligible Rockstar titles right away using the free month. Alternatively, the credit can be saved and activated later, either once GTA VI ships or any time up until March 2027.
Where the free trial becomes a real charge
A free subscription always sounds appealing, but free trials have a well-known way of turning into charges nobody meant to sign up for. GTA+ auto-renews once activated, so exactly one month after redeeming it, a player's payment method gets billed $7.99. Anyone who claims the free GTA+ month bundled with a GTA VI preorder but has no interest in paying for it going forward will need to cancel the subscription before that automatic renewal kicks in.
How to cancel a GTA+ subscription
Canceling requires going back to whichever storefront the game was preordered through, since that's where the subscription itself is managed. Depending on the platform, that could mean:
- The PlayStation Store
- The Microsoft Store
- The Rockstar and Epic Games management page
- Steam's account settings
It's worth noting that the GTA+ subscription doesn't actually begin the moment a player preorders the game, it only starts once the free month is redeemed. Anyone planning to use it needs to redeem it before March 31, 2027, or the free month disappears entirely. Once redeemed, the clock starts, and cancellation has to happen before that month runs out to avoid getting charged.
