School students in Maharajganj district of Uttar Pradesh have developed an innovative smart device designed to prevent electrical accidents, control power consumption, and mitigate burglary risks associated with power cuts. Sunny and Divyansh, students studying at RPIC School located in Bijapar within the Siswa area, designed the multi-functional apparatus named PowerShield Pro. Despite its compact physical size, the device packs advanced technological capabilities that address critical electrical safety challenges. It actively monitors electrical circuits, sending instant phone calls and SMS alerts to the property owner whenever a fault is detected. Furthermore, the system enables users to remotely manage and shut off their electrical supply from any location worldwide.
Disaster Prevention and the Urgent Need for Electrical Safety
While electricity is indispensable to modern life, improper handling or technical oversights can quickly escalate into catastrophic hazards. A major fire outbreak at a coaching institute in Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh, previously underscored the deadly consequences of electrical short circuits. That incident resulted in serious injuries to several individuals and sparked widespread discussion regarding electrical safety protocols across the country. Motivated by such tragic events, Sunny and Divyansh set out to create a proactive safety solution. Their invention demonstrates how young students are observing real-world societal hazards and leveraging technology to prevent similar accidents from recurring in the future.
Development Journey and Technical Capabilities of PowerShield Pro
Transforming the concept of PowerShield Pro into a fully operational prototype required months of dedicated effort and technical research. Before assembling the system, the student duo systematically studied existing innovations in electrical engineering and safety automation. Utilizing modern sensor technology and microcontrollers, they engineered a custom solution. The primary feature of PowerShield Pro is its automated fault-detection mechanism. When an electrical fault or short circuit occurs within the circuit, the device immediately initiates an automated voice call and SMS notification to the registered owner. Additionally, if an owner leaves their premises and forgets to turn off appliances, they can remotely interrupt the electrical flow using their mobile device.
Integrated Smart Metering and Anti-Burglary Mechanism
Beyond fault detection, PowerShield Pro features an integrated electricity meter that allows users to regulate power consumption. Property owners can set a specific threshold of electrical units; once the consumption reaches this preset limit, the device automatically halts the power supply, preventing energy waste and avoiding unexpectedly high electricity bills. In addition, the device incorporates an anti-theft security mechanism. Intruders frequently sever main power cables prior to executing a break-in to disable CCTV security cameras and lighting systems. PowerShield Pro identifies sudden, unexpected interruptions in electricity flow and instantly dispatches a emergency security alert to the owner's phone, giving them vital time to respond.
Production Cost and Future Enhancement Prospects
The total development cost for constructing this working prototype came to approximately ₹5,000. Sunny and Divyansh emphasized that this initial prototype serves as a foundation for further advancements. They envision incorporating artificial intelligence algorithms and refined sensor technology in future iterations to enhance the device's diagnostic capabilities. Developed on a modest budget, this innovation offers an affordable, accessible solution to enhance electrical safety in households, commercial establishments, and educational institutions.
