Tourist arrivals in Goa have kept climbing year after year, and the tally has now crossed the one-crore mark. More than 1.03 crore Indian tourists visited Goa in 2025, up sharply from just 70.19 lakh in 2022. On top of that, over 5 lakh foreign nationals also travelled to the coastal state last year. The state government shared these figures in the assembly.
Year-on-year jump in visitor numbers
Goa's tourism minister Rohan Khaunte presented the data in the assembly during the recently concluded monsoon session. According to the figures, 70,18,945 domestic tourists visited Goa in 2022. That number climbed to 81,75,460 in 2023 and further to 99,41,285 in 2024. In 2025, domestic arrivals hit a fresh high of 1,02,84,608, meaning the count of Indian visitors to Goa rose by roughly 33 lakh in just three years.
Foreign tourist numbers keep rising too
It isn't just domestic travellers driving the surge. Foreign arrivals in Goa have also climbed steadily, from 1,69,005 in 2022 to 4,52,702 in 2023 and 4,67,911 in 2024. In 2025, the number of foreign tourists reached 5,17,802. The momentum has continued into 2026 as well. In the first seven months of the year, January to July, Goa recorded 59,01,769 domestic and 2,36,113 foreign visitors, taking the combined tourist count for the period past 61.37 lakh.
Tourism contributes 16.43% to Goa's GDP
The state government told the assembly that tourism directly contributes an estimated 16.43 percent to Goa's gross domestic product (GDP). At the same time, it acknowledged that the constantly rising footfall could put pressure on infrastructure, natural resources and local communities. That is why the focus is shifting from simply chasing higher numbers to promoting tourism in a more sustainable way.
Pushing visitors beyond the beaches
To spread tourists beyond the traditional coastal belt and into the state's interior regions, the government has launched an initiative called 'Goa Beyond Beaches'. Under this programme, monsoon tourism, rural tourism, heritage, culture and experience-based travel are being actively promoted. The government says Goa has become the first state in the country to adopt a 'regenerative tourism' model, aimed at cutting environmental damage while improving the condition of natural resources, local communities and tourist destinations.
