Residents of the national capital are set to experience water tourism locally as authorities take a major step toward establishing the first river cruise service on the Yamuna River. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta initiated the soft launch of the Nemo Yamuna River Safari on Monday in the presence of Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra. A trial run of the vessel is currently underway, and following a successful assessment, the service is scheduled to open for the general public in the coming days. Officials noted that the introduction of this cruise means people will no longer need to travel to destinations like Mumbai or Goa to enjoy a river or sea cruise experience.
According to the layout of the project, the cruise will operate along an approximate 10-kilometer stretch of the Yamuna River, running from the Wazirabad area up to Jagatpur. During this journey, tourists will enjoy a ride lasting around 40 minutes on the water. The fare for the trip has been fixed at 500 rupees per person. Authorities plan to make the tickets available online through the official website of Delhi Tourism to ensure a smooth booking process for passengers.
The cruise is equipped with various amenities to ensure passenger comfort during the voyage. The interior features air-conditioned seating arrangements along with restroom facilities. The vessel is designed to accommodate a total of 40 people, which includes two crew members. Out of the total capacity, 30 passengers can be seated inside the main cabin, while the upper deck has seating space for eight individuals. However, final details regarding exact passenger limits and operational guidelines are expected to be officially confirmed closer to the public launch date.
The primary objective behind this undertaking is to boost tourism within the capital and provide citizens with a fresh perspective of Delhi's landscape from the river. The initiative also aims to encourage recreational activities and waterfront tourism along the riverbanks. The Nemo Yamuna River Safari is viewed as a landmark project for developing water-based tourism in Delhi. During the ongoing trial phase, officials are evaluating the operational aspects and overall arrangements. As per the current schedule outlined by the administration, the service is targeted to open ahead of the upcoming Chhath festival.
