Two separate criminal incidents in Delhi have raised fresh security concerns across the national capital. In Mukherjee Nagar, a brazen snatching took place late Monday night when a woman riding pillion on a motorcycle swiftly snatched a mobile phone from a businessman standing beside his parked car. The entire sequence was captured on a nearby surveillance camera and the clip circulated widely on social media platforms. Following the circulation of the footage, local law enforcement lodged a formal complaint and initiated a hunt to track down the fleeing duo.
Mukherjee Nagar Incident: Phone Snatched Outside Sweet Shop
The victim was identified as 40-year-old Mohammad Ashu, a resident of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh who lives with his family. He had traveled to Mukherjee Nagar for commercial work. He visited a sweet shop located in Bhai Parmanand Colony to purchase items. After making his purchases, he crossed the road toward his parked vehicle and began talking on his phone while standing right next to the car.
According to the surveillance footage, a young man and a woman approached on a motorcycle from the opposite direction. Seeing the victim occupied with his phone conversation, they brought the motorcycle to a halt a short distance away from his vehicle. The man riding the two-wheeler wore a white cap, whereas the woman seated behind him was not wearing a helmet. They paused for a few moments and exchanged words before the rider turned the bike around and drove directly past the complainant. In a flash, the unhelmeted woman reached out and snatched the phone from his grip. The two sped away before the victim could react or stop them.
Police Scanning CCTV Footages to Nab Motorcycle Duo
Immediately after the incident, Mohammad Ashu reported the crime to the local police station. Officers registered a formal First Information Report (FIR) and launched an investigation. Police teams are reviewing footage from multiple surveillance cameras along the route to establish the vehicle registration number and identify the suspects. Search operations remain underway across adjoining areas to track down both the rider and the woman.
