A murder investigation in Ayodhya's Rudauli area has taken a shocking turn, with police revealing that an unidentified body found dumped in roadside bushes was allegedly killed by his own wife and her alleged lover in a plot to grab land.
Unidentified Body Found in Bushes
The case originates from the Kudha-Sadat link road under Rudauli Kotwali jurisdiction, where a man's body was discovered lying in bushes by the roadside a few days ago. Since the body could not be identified at first, police faced the challenge of establishing who the victim was. Investigators combed through CCTV footage, tracked mobile phone locations, and used electronic surveillance and other technical evidence to eventually identify the deceased as 48-year-old Devendra Kumar Verma, a resident of Barabanki.
Wife and Alleged Lover Accused of Plotting the Murder
Once the victim was identified, police began examining his last known movements, which led suspicion directly to his wife, Shubhangini, and her alleged lover, Vipin Verma. According to police, the two had already planned to eliminate Devendra. Investigators allege that on July 11, Shubhangini called her husband to Ayodhya under the pretext of a sightseeing trip. The two accused then allegedly took him to a deserted spot, where they repeatedly struck him with a hammer, killing him on the spot. Police say the motive behind the killing was to seize land.
Body Dumped in Bushes to Hide Identity
After the murder, the accused allegedly dumped the body in the bushes in an attempt to prevent identification, hoping the case would be recorded and forgotten as the death of an unknown person. However, the plan did not hold up for long. Technical investigation and evidence gathered from the crime scene eventually exposed the entire scheme.
Interrogation Leads to Arrest, Hammer Recovered
Once the evidence pointed to them, Rudauli police detained Shubhangini and Vipin Verma and questioned them extensively. Based on the facts and evidence that emerged during interrogation, both were arrested. Acting on their disclosure, police also recovered the hammer allegedly used in the murder, which is being treated as a crucial piece of evidence in the case.
Action Carried Out Under Senior Police Officer's Supervision
The entire operation was carried out under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police Dr. Gaurav Grover, and police have described it as a major breakthrough. Both accused were produced in court and subsequently sent to judicial custody. Police officials said all legal formalities related to the case are being completed, and every aspect that emerges during further investigation will be thoroughly examined.
