A shocking and gruesome incident has come to light in the Sagwara police station area of Dungarpur district, where a son allegedly murdered his own father and attempted to pass it off as a tragic accident. Police have cracked the case and arrested the accused son, Kantilal. Initial police interrogation revealed that the accused was burdened under heavy debt and wanted to sell family land to pay off his dues. However, the deceased, Gautamlal Yadav, was strongly opposed to selling the land, which led to a bitter dispute between them and prompted the accused to attack his father with an axe.
The fateful night and hospital claims
According to Sagwara CI Manish Kumar, Kantilal, a resident of Gowadi village, brought his injured father Gautamlal Yadav to the government hospital in Sagwara on August 27 at around 10 pm. At the time, the accused told doctors and family members that Gautamlal had accidentally fallen from the roof of their house, resulting in severe head injuries. Doctors immediately began treatment, but Gautamlal's condition was extremely critical, and he passed away during treatment. Following his death, the family brought the body back home the same night, and preparations for the last rites began early the next morning.
The dark secret revealed at the cremation ground
As the traditional funeral rites were underway at the cremation ground the next morning, the bandages tied around the deceased person's head were removed. Upon seeing the severe injury marks on the head, the villagers present there grew suspicious, realizing that such deep wounds could not have been caused by a routine fall from a roof. Finding the situation highly suspicious, the villagers immediately alerted the local police. Acting swiftly on the information, a police team led by Station Officer Manish Khoiwal reached the spot, took the body into custody, shifted it to the hospital mortuary, and got a post-mortem examination conducted.
Post-mortem report exposes the weapon attack
The post-mortem report revealed that Gautamlal died due to a brutal attack on his head using a sharp-edged weapon. Once the report came out, police grew suspicious of the accidental fall theory and widened the scope of their investigation, focusing their suspicion on the victim's son, Kantilal. Police detained the accused and began intense questioning. During the interrogation, police gathered relevant facts and circumstances surrounding the incident, and according to law enforcement, the accused eventually confessed to his crime.
Debt and land dispute motives behind the killing
During police questioning, the accused admitted that he had struck his father's head three to four times with an axe, leaving him grievously injured. Following the assault, the accused fabricated the roof fall story to evade police action and escape going to jail. Police investigation established that heavy debt and a property dispute were the primary motives behind the murder. Kantilal had borrowed money from multiple sources, and the interest on his loans was mounting rapidly. He wanted to sell the family land to clear his debts, but Gautamlal Yadav strongly resisted the move. Persistent arguments and feuds over the land drove the accused to plot and execute the murder.
