A distressing consequence of academic stress and parental expectations unfolded in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad district late on Saturday evening. A 14-year-old student took his own life by hanging inside his residence in Chaman Colony, situated in the Kanawani area under the jurisdiction of the Indirapuram police station. The deceased teenager has been identified as Deepanshu, son of Kalyan Singh, who was enrolled as a Class 10 student at Amrapali School. Preliminary enquiries by law enforcement indicate that the boy took the extreme step after his father reprimanded him regarding his poor grades during a parent-teacher meeting (PTM) organised at the school earlier that day. Local police have initiated an inquiry into all angles connected to the tragedy.
Grief in Kanawani After Fatal Incident
According to police officials, Deepanshu resided in Chaman Colony alongside his parents and one brother. The school had convened a scheduled parent-teacher meeting on Saturday morning, during which his academic scores were discussed. Annoyed by the low evaluation marks, his father scolded Deepanshu. Deeply aggrieved and hurt by the rebuke, the boy retreated into distress and hanged himself in his home at around 8:00 pm on Saturday night. Screams and cries broke out within the household when family members discovered his body, alerting the immediate neighbourhood. Upon receiving an emergency alert, officers from the Indirapuram police station arrived at the scene, took custody of the body, and dispatched it for post-mortem analysis. The unexpected demise has left the entire household in profound sorrow.
Police Investigation and Official Findings
Providing details regarding the ongoing procedural inquiry, Indirapuram ACP Surya Bali Maurya confirmed that initial information strongly points towards the boy feeling extremely upset after his father scolded him over academic outcomes. Inspecting officers did not locate any suicide note at the scene. Police personnel are actively speaking with family members to establish the exact sequence of events leading up to the evening incident, while reviewing other relevant factual aspects. ACP Maurya stated that subsequent legal measures will proceed once the official post-mortem examination report is received from doctors.
First-Year Student Found Dead at IIIT Ranchi
In another tragic occurrence illustrating the intense pressure felt by young learners, a first-year student at the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) in Ranchi was found dead inside his hostel room. The situation surfaced on Saturday night when fellow hostellers grew concerned upon finding the room locked securely from the inside. When repeated knocking yielded no answer, the students immediately notified the institute's administration, who then contacted local authorities. The deceased youth has been identified as Aditya, hailing from the Purnia district of Bihar.
Enquiries Point to Academic Pressure Around Term Exams
Officers from the Khelgaon police station reached the campus premises to take charge of the scene. Khelgaon police station in-charge Nirbhay Kumar, speaking on the details of the case, said, "The deceased was a first-year student from Bihar, aged between 19 and 20 years. Preliminary investigation indicates that the student committed suicide under exam pressure; the examinations had commenced on October 8. His body has been sent to RIMS for post-mortem." The hostel room was secured by investigators as communications were sent to the bereaved family members in Bihar to facilitate further legal formalities.
