A brutal murder has shaken Fatehpur district in Uttar Pradesh, marking the second fatal crime in the area within a span of 24 hours. The incident took place at Gadariyan Purwa in Sataunbhit village under the jurisdiction of the Asothar police station, where an elderly farmer resting overnight at his agricultural plot was attacked and killed using sharp-edged weapons.
Body Discovered on Cot at Agricultural Tubewell
The victim, identified as 65-year-old Sitaram Pal, a resident of Gadariyan Purwa, had left his residence on Saturday night to sleep at his field. The plot is situated roughly 150 meters away from his home and houses a tubewell used for irrigation. On this land, he maintained a small setup where he also kept several chickens. As part of his routine, he went to sleep on a cot beside the tubewell installation.
Concern grew the following morning when Sitaram Pal failed to return home by around 11:00 AM on Sunday. Alarmed by the delay, his family members and fellow villagers walked to the tubewell to check on him. Upon arrival, they discovered him lying dead on the cot in a pool of blood. His body bore multiple deep cuts inflicted by sharp-edged weapons, confirming he had been fatally assaulted while asleep.
Family Rules Out Personal Enmity and Feuds
The discovery of the violent killing triggered intense grief among the family, with relatives struggling to comprehend who could have targeted him. According to his family, Sitaram Pal was a peaceable individual who harboured no ongoing disputes, land conflicts, or personal rivalries with anyone in the village. His wife passed away four years ago, and he is survived by five sons and two unmarried daughters. With no known enmities on record, the relatives noted that they were completely in the dark regarding potential suspects.
Forensic Examination Conducted and Special Teams Formed
Upon receiving notification of the crime, Circle Officer Durgeshdeep along with personnel from the Asothar police station and a forensic investigation team arrived at the crime scene. Investigators examined the surroundings, gathered physical evidence, and took custody of the body before sending it for a post-mortem examination.
