The Aliganj fire in Lucknow took 15 lives, but the story of Nilesh Kumar and Anamika Samant cuts deeper than any other to emerge from the tragedy. He was 27, she was 30, and their wedding had been fixed for this December. Their families were in the early stages of celebration and planning. No one could have foreseen that instead of a wedding, both households would receive a body on the same Monday afternoon.
The Same Building, the Same Flames, the Same Fate
Anamika Samant worked in the very building where the fire broke out. Nilesh Kumar was there at the same time. The fire caught both of them together, and both died together. For Nilesh's family, Monday had begun like any ordinary day. He left home for work in the morning as usual. By the time his family next heard from his direction, it was to receive his body. The same scene played out at Anamika's home on the same day.
Wedding Talks, Family Joy, and Then Nothing
The two families had only recently begun formal discussions about the marriage and had agreed to the match. There were plans, expectations, and the kind of quiet excitement that comes with a new beginning. A shared life was just taking shape when it was extinguished entirely. Among the many harrowing stories from this fire, this one stands apart because what was lost was not only two people but the entire future two families had started building together.
Brother Abhishek: The Building Should Have Been Sealed in 2016
Nilesh's brother Abhishek has demanded the strongest possible action against everyone responsible for the tragedy. He said that had the building been sealed back in 2016, the scale of the disaster might have been far smaller, and his brother would in all likelihood be alive today. He called on the administration to act without leniency and to hold every responsible party fully accountable under the law.
Shatruhan Lal: A Father Who Cannot Unsee That Last Image
Nilesh's father, Shatruhan Lal, is a broken man. The grief and anger on his face are impossible to miss. He asked the government and the administration a pointed question: can any official action, any inquiry or arrest, ever make up for the loss of his son. In his own words:
"My son always left home with a smile. I never thought that yesterday would be the last time I saw him. That final image will stay before my eyes forever."
