The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a significant weather forecast for the coming days. According to the department, there is a high probability of heavy to very heavy rainfall across Northeast India, West Bengal, and Sikkim. Specifically, between June 27 and June 29, the sub-Himalayan regions of West Bengal and Sikkim, and Assam and Meghalaya on June 28, are expected to witness extremely heavy downpours. In contrast, Uttar Pradesh remains under the grip of severe heatwave conditions, which are expected to persist for the next two days. Currently, the progress of the monsoon has stalled. Its northern limit is passing through Surat, Indore, Mandla, Daltonganj, and Motihari. However, conditions are expected to become favorable within the next three to four days, facilitating the monsoon's arrival in the remaining parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Bihar, as well as its expansion into Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Over the past 24 hours, significant rainfall was recorded in parts of West Bengal and western Madhya Pradesh. Meanwhile, normal rainfall was observed in eastern Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.
Little change in temperatures expected
Most parts of the country will not witness significant weather changes for the next three to four days. However, relief is anticipated thereafter. Northwest India is expected to see a drop in temperature by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius. Similarly, central India may witness a dip of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius, and eastern India is likely to see a decline of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius between July 1 and July 3. Other regions of the country are unlikely to see any notable temperature shifts over the next seven days.
Red alert for Sikkim and Bengal
A red alert has been issued for West Bengal and Sikkim, where some regions could experience rainfall exceeding 21 centimeters. Simultaneously, an orange warning is in effect for Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, and eastern Madhya Pradesh. The department has also cautioned about the risk of lightning strikes in Bihar, Odisha, and Jharkhand. A yellow warning has been issued for Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh due to persistent heatwave conditions. Additionally, heavy rain warnings have been issued for Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and coastal Karnataka.
Delhi heat index hits 48.4 degrees
Residents in Delhi experienced intense heat on Saturday. The maximum temperature was recorded at 41.3 degrees Celsius, but due to the 'heat index', the felt temperature reached 48.4 degrees Celsius. At the Safdarjung weather station, the minimum temperature was recorded at 30.8 degrees Celsius, which is 2.9 degrees above normal. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Tuesday and Wednesday, predicting rain and thunderstorms. For Sunday, the weather bureau has forecasted partly cloudy skies with the possibility of strong surface winds reaching speeds of 20 to 30 kilometers per hour during the afternoon or evening.
