Ghaziabad: A major and tragic incident has been reported from Ghaziabad district in Uttar Pradesh. A lintel at a construction site in Sikri village under the Modinagar area collapsed suddenly, trapping multiple workers beneath the rubble. According to initial information gathered from the site, one worker has lost his life in this accident, while apprehensions remained that a few others were trapped under the debris. Modinagar MLA Manju Shivach confirmed the developments. Police stated that five workers were safely rescued and rushed to a hospital, where one of them succumbed to injuries during treatment.
Slab Collapses During Construction Work
Modinagar MLA Manju Shivach described the incident as extremely unfortunate. She explained that while laying the slab, the shuttering might have slipped or there could have been some other reason, which remains a subject of investigation. She expressed deep sorrow that even on the day of Diwali, laborers were working to earn their daily wages when the slab suddenly gave way. Around six to seven workers were present at the location, and unfortunately, one of them got trapped under the debris and died. Visuals and updates regarding the incident were shared via posts on X.
Rescue Operations and Evacuation of Trapped Workers
Upon receiving information about the disaster, local police teams rushed to the spot immediately. In addition, teams from the National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force launched a comprehensive rescue operation. Five people were pulled out from the debris successfully. DCP (Rural) Surendranath Tiwari stated that local police, the fire department, NDRF, and SDRF were notified instantly and arrived at the location to execute the rescue operation. He confirmed that the search and rescue operation has concluded and no one else remains trapped underneath. Further rescue updates were posted on X.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Takes Cognisance
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken serious cognisance of the tragic event. He expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of the victims. He instructed officials to reach the spot immediately and expedite relief and rescue operations. CM Yogi specifically directed authorities to speak with the families of the deceased and ensure that all possible assistance is extended to them without delay. Furthermore, he prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured. Directives regarding the administration's response were shared on X.
