A strong, foul stench engulfed the entire flat, and the lifeless body of her 82-year-old father lay on a bed inside the room. What baffled everyone the most was that the elderly man had passed away approximately a week prior, yet his son had been quietly coexisting with the corpse inside the very same apartment for all those days.
This spine-chilling incident occurred at Aman Enclave in the Ratanpur area under the Panki police station jurisdiction in Kanpur. The deceased elderly man has been identified as 82-year-old Dr. Prem Prakash. On Friday, coinciding with Dhanteras, his daughter Archana arrived to share the joyous news of her new car purchase with her father and brother. When she knocked on the entrance, her brother Vijay श्रीवास्तव opened the door. Step by step into the flat, she was hit by an overwhelming foul odor. Upon walking directly into her father's bedroom and spotting his remains on the bed, she screamed in utter shock, prompting neighbors to rush to the spot immediately.
Messy rooms and scattered belongings
According to Archana, the interior of the apartment was completely disarrayed with items strewn all over and filth accumulated across the rooms. The kitchen was littered with unwashed utensils and leftover food items. When she reached her father's quarters, food was discovered placed right next to the bed holding his mortal remains. The glaring mystery of how the son managed to survive in the exact same household for so many days following his father's demise has become a central point of police investigation.
Vijay lived together with his father in the Aman Enclave flat. The father typically took care of his son's daily needs, going as far as preparing meals for him. With the primary caregiver passing away and the son remaining confined with the body for nearly a week, severe questions have been raised regarding how Vijay spent his time and arranged his sustenance during this grim period.
Post-mortem will unravel the cause of death
Upon receiving information regarding the grim episode, local police units and forensic experts rushed to the scene. Authorities took custody of the body and dispatched it for a post-mortem examination. According to ACP Amit Chourasia, preliminary observations indicate that the body is roughly five to seven days old. The deceased person's son was also found present inside the apartment when officials arrived.
