A major development has unfolded surrounding the high-profile Ankita Bhandari murder case in Uttarakhand as actress Urmila Sanawar has been arrested and sent to 14 days of judicial custody by a court. For a prolonged period, she remained in the headlines for continuously sharing various audio and video clips regarding the murder case and alleging the involvement of influential figures.
Arrested from Saharanpur Following Extortion Charges
Hailing from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, the actress found herself in deep legal trouble after a formal police complaint was lodged at the Ranipur police station by the daughter of former MLA Suresh Rathore. According to the complaint, she was allegedly demanding ownership of the Ravidas Peeth and demanded five crore rupees when her demands were not met. The grievance further stated that failure to pay the amount would result in death threats to the family and the circulation of provocative photos and videos online. Acting swiftly on these allegations, law enforcement registered a case and apprehended her from Saharanpur.
Extensive Criminal Record Across Multiple Police Stations
Authorities revealed that Urmila Sanawar already faces a total of nine registered cases across different jurisdictions. Police records indicate that these legal proceedings are spread across multiple stations in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, including Jhabrera, Bahadrabad, Jwalapur, and Ranipur in Haridwar, along with Nehru Colony in Dehradun. Similar cases are also pending at the Sadar Bazar and Fatehpur police stations in Saharanpur district. These existing charges invoke various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, primarily involving accusations of intimidation and sharing objectionable content.
