Normal life has been severely disrupted across the Bageshwar district due to incessant heavy rainfall over the past three days. The continuous downpour has triggered multiple landslides in the hilly terrain, sending debris and massive boulders crashing onto roadways. As a result, 14 roads across the district have been blocked, severely disrupting commuter movement in rural areas and causing immense travel hardship for residents of several villages.
Rescue and clearance teams from the concerned departments have been dispatched to the sites to clear the blocked routes and restore smooth traffic flow. Authorities are actively working on the ground to reopen the affected pathways as quickly as possible.
Major Landslide Near Rawaikhal on Bageshwar-Garur Route
A massive landslide triggered by the rain has blocked the Bageshwar-Garur motor route near Rawaikhal. Upon receiving information, an official team rushed directly to the location to initiate clearance operations. The district administration stated that continuous surveillance is being maintained across vulnerable and sensitive spots during the rainy spell to ensure immediate response in any emergency situation.
Rising Water Levels in Saryu and Gomti Rivers
The relentless downpour has also impacted the water levels of local rivers, with both the Saryu and Gomti swelling significantly. The Saryu River's water reached up to the Saryu Ghat, escalating anxiety among residents and business owners living along its banks. Officials noted that the surge is a direct result of heavy downpours in upper catchment areas.
Harish Soni, a former president of the trade association, stated that continuous rain over the past few days, compounded by heavy precipitation in the Sumgarh region, drove the Saryu River's water level up considerably. However, a slight drop in the water level later in the afternoon brought some relief to locals. He added that the administration has advised residents to stay away from rivers, rivulets, and waterlogged areas, urging them to avoid unnecessary travel and step out of their homes only after checking weather conditions.
Administration Keeps Close Watch on Affected Zones
District Magistrate Apoorva Pandey stated that efforts are underway on a priority basis to reopen the roads blocked by rain debris. Necessary directives have been issued to all relevant departments, and the affected areas are being monitored continuously. She emphasized that the administration's top priority is ensuring public safety and restoring disrupted transportation at the earliest.
At present, departmental teams are working relentlessly to normalize the situation across the district. Full restoration of traffic is expected only after the weather clears up completely and all debris is successfully cleared from landslide-hit routes.
