More than 15,000 underprivileged families in Uttarakhand are set to receive permanent homes by December as the state government accelerates work under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). The initiative, aimed at providing housing to eligible urban poor households, is making rapid progress across multiple districts. To ensure prompt delivery, the state housing department has set a strict deadline of September 30 for executing agencies to complete all remaining pending construction work.
Construction Progress and Key Distribution Status
According to Secretary Housing Dr. R. Rajesh, the state is executing 18 housing projects comprising a total of 15,496 residential units. Construction has already been completed on approximately 84 percent of these houses, amounting to 12,948 finished units.
House keys have already been handed over to 1,271 eligible beneficiaries so far. This includes 768 families in Roorkee and 503 beneficiaries in Haridwar who have moved into their new homes. Executing agencies have been instructed to finish all pending work by September 30 without fail, enabling all eligible families to occupy their residences before the end of the year.
Udham Singh Nagar Leads with 10,200 Housing Units
Udham Singh Nagar district accounts for the largest share of the housing drive, with 10,200 units being constructed. Within the district, 1,872 houses under the Rudrapur Housing Scheme are fully complete. Additionally, 928 units are located in Matkota (Rudrapur).
Other project sites in Udham Singh Nagar include 1,264 houses in Bhawanipur (Jaspur), 1,168 units in Ukrauli-1 (Sitarganj), and 864 units in Ukrauli-2 (Sitarganj). In the Kashipur area, construction covers 1,256 houses in Kanakpur, 512 in Manpur, and 584 in Gangapur Gosaal. Furthermore, 928 units are being built in Shyamnagar (Gadarpur) and 824 in Mahuwakhedaganj.
Project Breakdown Across Haridwar, Nainital, and Dehradun
In Haridwar district, construction is underway for 4,528 housing units. The largest schemes in the district include 1,152 houses in Anneki and 1,088 houses in Beldi (Roorkee). Other developments in Haridwar comprise 768 units in Shikarpur, 544 in Manglaur, 528 under the Indralok housing scheme, and 448 in Jhabbarpur.
In Nainital district, all 528 housing units planned in Ummednagar (Ramnagar) have been fully completed. Meanwhile, in Dehradun district, 180 out of 240 houses under the Dhaulas Housing Scheme have been completed, with work on the remaining units progressing toward completion.
State Government Increases Financial Share and CM's Statement
To further support eligible families, the Uttarakhand government has increased its financial share under the scheme. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that the state's financial contribution per beneficiary family has been raised from Rs 50,000 to Rs 75,000.
Commenting on the initiative's progress, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated, "We are committed to delivering the benefits of development schemes to eligible people in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas aur Sabka Prayas'." He emphasized that the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana provides dignity, security, and a foundation for a better future for poor families, directly benefiting thousands across the state.
