A tragic rain-related disaster struck Almora district in Uttarakhand, where a residential house collapsed completely following incessant downpours. The calamity resulted in the tragic deaths of a mother and her two children who were trapped under the debris. The incident unfolded within the jurisdiction of Somेश्वर police station, prompting an urgent emergency response.
SDRF Rescue and Recovery Operations
Emergency services were alerted when SDRF received an emergency call at 4:46 AM regarding the collapse. The rescue personnel rushed to the site immediately and launched an operation to extricate the victims buried under the rubble. According to Sub-Inspector Pankaj Dangwal from Sariyapani, rescue teams successfully recovered the bodies of three individuals from the collapsed structure. The deceased include a 45-year-old woman, a 19-year-old male, and a 17-year-old female. Authorities are currently clearing blocked routes to facilitate ambulance access while gathering further details regarding the accident.
Infrastructure Damage and Weather Warnings
The relentless weather has severely disrupted transportation networks throughout the region. In the Takula area of Almora, heavy rainfall washed away a culvert on the Basoli-Nai Dhol road, causing a complete road closure. A 10-meter stretch of the roadway was entirely washed away, while numerous other roads across the district remain blocked. In response to the intensifying weather conditions, meteorological authorities have issued an orange alert for extremely heavy rainfall in the state capital Dehradun and Tehri. Furthermore, warnings for intense downpours have been issued for isolated pockets, alongside a yellow alert for six districts including Pauri, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Champawat.
