Qualified medical graduates have an opportunity to serve as commissioned officers within the tri-services medical wing. The Armed Forces Medical Services has initiated a short service commission drive to induct 120 medical officers across the military branches. Doctors selected through this channel will be deployed in the Army, Navy, and Air Force health establishments.
Breakup of Available Vacancies
The total allotment of 120 positions carries specific gender allocations. A quota of 90 positions is earmarked for male applicants, while 30 positions are set aside for female candidates. Those selected under the short service framework will provide healthcare support to armed personnel and operational units across various military facilities.
Prescribed Education and Licensing Requirements
Eligible applicants must hold an MBBS degree awarded by a recognised medical college or university. Along with the graduation certificate, a valid and permanent professional registration with either a State Medical Council or the National Medical Commission is strictly required.
The notification also welcomes doctors who have completed post-graduate diplomas or advanced PG degrees, including MD, MS, and DNB qualifications. Higher clinical qualifications allow practitioners to contribute their specialised skills directly to service hospitals.
Age Brackets and Eligibility Cutoffs
Age requirements vary according to the level of professional qualification attained by the doctor. For MBBS holders and PG diploma recipients, the upper age threshold is fixed at 30 years, requiring candidate birth dates to fall on or after January 2, 1997.
Physicians possessing an MD or MS degree receive an upper age leeway up to 35 years. Consequently, applicants in this higher qualification bracket must have been born on or after January 2, 1992. Anyone born prior to these cutoffs falls outside the permissible criteria.
Recruitment Schedule and Application Charge
The recruitment timetable follows strict administrative deadlines. A comprehensive notification document will be published on November 7, 2026, leading into the formal start of online registrations on November 9, 2026.
Candidates have until November 18, 2026, to transmit their completed applications. A flat processing fee of 200 rupees applies uniformly across every candidate category. This fee must be remitted through digital banking paths, including credit cards, debit cards, UPI, or net banking gateways.
Three-Stage Candidate Evaluation Process
Selection proceeds along an established evaluation path starting with application scrutiny. Credentials, documentation, and academic scores determine the list of contenders called forward for face-to-face evaluation.
Shortlisted candidates will face an assessment panel at Army Hospital (Research & Referral) located in Delhi, with interviews expected during December 2026. Successful candidates from the interview segment then proceed to rigorous military medical and physical tests. Performance tallies across these phases will determine the final consolidated merit list.
Submission Steps on the Official Portal
Prospective applicants need to access the official recruitment portal at join.afms.gov.in to register. Candidates must locate the active link for the 2026 Medical Officer short service commission on the homepage and complete initial sign-up credentials.
Once registered, applicants log in to fill educational backgrounds, council registration records, and contact information. Scanned copies of MBBS diplomas, council registration cards, photographs, and signatures must be uploaded alongside the forms. The final step involves transferring the 200 rupees application fee online and retaining a hard copy of the submitted form for reference.
